First impressions count, and finding a church based on this is no exception. By observing and answering to your satisfaction the following questions, you can learn much.
Do at least 3 people greet you?
Is there a Statement of Faith or Mission Statement boldly printed in the bulletin?
Do you like the program outlined?
Have people brought their Bibles?
Do you enjoy a good sermon, one that is as entertaining as it is thoughtful? Does it elucidate certain scripture passages for you?
Do you like a more Bible-oriented church, where the minister and others read directly from the scriptures explaining each verse?
Are there small children sitting in the pews?
Do people sing wholeheartedly or just quietly mouth the words to hymns?
Does the congregation pray together? Is there a moment for silent prayer?
Do you feel at home?
Don't be afraid to ask questions of the congregants such as, what style of communion and baptism they follow, and if there are any building projects? It could save you a lot of time, and they will be eager to talk with you about these things. Do you sense enthusiasm?
Churches can provide community dinners, sing-alongs, holiday programs, bus trips, coffee sessions and Bible studies on a regular basis within an atmosphere of faith. Is there an event printed in the bulletin that intrigues you? There is comfort in the company of other Christians who know how to organize and create an environment of loving fellowship.
If you have children, you'll want Sunday school to train them in your faith. Vacation Bible School should be on the summer schedule. Baby-sitting facilities should be available also, so that you can concentrate on the service without distraction. Is there a children's choir, or opportunity for a child to become an acolyte? Are Cub Scouts and Brownies meeting there?
If you'd like to join a new church, one that is currently meeting in someone's home, YMCA, school, etc., you'll have to consider the growing pains. They need funds, and they need members to recruit others to come to the church and promise to help out financially and in any other viable way. But it is an exciting process to witness, and to offer your talents.
You must go to a church that feeds your soul, a church that has more to offer you every week and makes you eager to come back.
C3 Balmain can fill this need and welcomes you to make it your new church home.
